Lifeline Children’s Services reacted on Tuesday to Medicaid funding being restored to Planned Parenthood.
According to The Hill, Republicans were successful in using the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to defund Planned Parenthood last year, but the ban only lasted for one year. The ban expired on Sunday.
“We are deeply disappointed that Medicaid reimbursements to Planned Parenthood have been restored following the expiration of the temporary funding restriction. While this decision is a setback for those committed to protecting the dignity of every human life, it does not change the truth that every child is created in the image of God and worthy of protection,” Herbie Newell, president and executive director of Birmingham-based Lifeline, said in a statement on Tuesday.
“American taxpayers should never be compelled to subsidize organizations that profit from ending innocent human life. We urge the White House and Congress to pursue permanent legislation that ensures taxpayer dollars support women, children, and families through life-affirming healthcare providers and community-based organizations instead of the abortion industry.”
He added, “A society that values life is one that invests in mothers, fathers, children, adoption, foster care, and family restoration. We remain committed to serving vulnerable women and children while advocating for policies that uphold the sanctity of every human life.”
