State Rep. Patrick Sellers (D-Pleasant Grove) recently announced the official launch of his campaign to seek reelection in District 57 in the Alabama House of Representatives.
Sellers defeated both Republican and Libertarian candidates for his seat in the 2022 general election. A political newcomer, Sellers ran for office after spending more than 30 years in the ministry. He also served in the U.S. Army and worked in Birmingham Children's Hospital.
While demonstrating himself to be a true Democrat, Sellers has also diverged from the party line on several issues.
Sellers claimed his first term included:
- Championing legislation to increase protections for teachers, seniors, and victims of domestic violence
- Securing funding for school safety, workforce development, and infrastructure improvements
- Fighting for economic justice, healthcare access, and housing opportunities in underserved communities
- Remaining visible and accountable, holding community town halls and staying actively engaged with local concerns
"Serving the people of District 57 has been the honor of my life," Sellers said. "We've made great strides together, but there is still much work to do. I'm running for reelection to finish what we started—building stronger neighborhoods, safer schools, and a brighter future for every family in our district."
He continued, "Together, we are building a stronger District 57—one step, one voice, and one victory at a time."
In announcing his reelection bid, Sellers said he plans to continue his mission to uplift families, improve education, protect seniors and bring "transformative investment" to the communities of District 57. The campaign will officially kick off this fall with a series of neighborhood events, town halls, and volunteer mobilizations.
