August Borden's parents issued a statement on Friday calling for the community to remain calm and respond peacefully as they continue to seek answers about their son's injuries.

Borden, a freshman at Deshler High School, suffered severe brain trauma last Tuesday while walking to football practice. Community pressure has mounted as more people believe that school officials aren't telling the truth.

Tuscumbia City Schools increased security measures across all campuses on Friday and implemented additional security procedures for the night's football game against Hatton High School.

On Friday, Kristen and Drew Van Devender, Borden's mom and stepfather, respectively, posted a video message thanking their supporters but also cautioning against violence.

"Returning violence with violence, it only multiplies violence," Drew Van Devender said. "Difference of opinion is acceptable, but violence is not. Let's proceed this process peacefully, and let justice prevail for August."

"Justice for August, and thank you," Kristen Van Devender said.
