The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently revoked the visas of foreign students at Auburn University and the "nonimmigrant student status" of two students at Troy University.
According to Birmingham's ABC 33/40, 15 Auburn University students had their visas revoked.
"We are aware that about 15 members of the Auburn University community recently had their visas revoked and records terminated by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Auburn's Office of International Programs immediately contacted each affected individual to provide assistance and support. Our international students and personnel are valued members of our campus community, and we recognize the significant impact that visa or status revocation will have on them. We encourage our international students and personnel to contact the Office of International Programs with any questions or concerns. We will continue to comply with all applicable laws and cooperate with authorities as required. This is a fluid situation, and the university will monitor it closely and assess its implications," an Auburn University spokesperson told ABC 33/40.
DHS also revoked the "nonimmigrant student status" of two Troy University foreign students recently.
"Two Troy University students have recently had their I-20 Nonimmigrant Student Status terminated. The status of their visas is unknown. The University is in contact with these students and is providing them with assistance and support," a Troy University spokesperson told ABC 33/40. "We are closely monitoring national developments regarding international student policies and remain committed to keeping our students informed and supported in accordance with federal guidelines. As Alabama's International University, we proudly welcome students from across the globe," said Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. "Our international students enrich the learning experience for all, and we deeply value the diverse perspectives they bring to our campus community. We support immigration policies that enhance our nation's security, while also recognizing the important contributions international students make to our society—whether in business, medicine, research, or other critical fields. Their presence strengthens our University, our communities, and our nation."
