The Mobile Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured the employee of a mechanic shop.

An employee of Williams Automotive & Transmission was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the shooting on Tuesday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Jerrell Elkins, 38. They believe Elkins got into an altercation with the victim over his vehicle.

Elkins left the scene on foot, police said, but he was later located and arrested. He was charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery and booked into the Mobile Metro Jail.

Elkins is considered innocent until proven guilty.
