The Walker family was excited when they planned a vacation to Panama City Beach. They couldn’t wait to get a little rest and relaxation on the beautiful beach. However, they had no idea the trip would become a newsworthy event.

Andrew Walker lost his prosthetic leg while in the Gulf of America. According to his wife, Candace, the vacation was the first the family had been able to take in three years. Andrew was enjoying the water when a strong current took his new prosthetic leg. He had only received the leg a week before the incident.

The leg, liner, and foot shell—all gone in an instant,” Candace Walker said on a GoFundme page. “His everyday prosthetic was brand new and now it's lost, leaving us feeling devastated and unsure of what to do next.”

Candace Walker said the family is not used to asking for help, but the expensive leg needs to be replaced. Andrew Walker does not have an extra and the couple has three kids under the age of 12 to keep up with.

The story went viral online and in just three days, the fundraiser reached 88% of the $8,000 goal.
