A Dothan attorney with a history of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests has dropped a lawsuit against the Dothan Police Department.
Valerie Judah filed the civil suit in Houston County, claiming police violated her civil rights during an arrest.
When she was arrested for DUI in 2022, she told the arresting officer she had a bad knee, but he handcuffed her. In the lawsuit, she claimed the officer’s decision to handcuff her behind her back created a fall risk. She fell and was visibly injured in the face.
Police said Judah fell because she was drunk and wearing high-heels.
Judah sued for $2 million in damages.
However, she filed to dismiss the lawsuit on Wednesday.
Judah was found guilty in municipal court for the 2022 DUI. She was ordered to 180 days suspended, a court referral program, to receive an interlock device on her vehicle and pay $3600 in court costs and fees. She has appealed that decision.
Judah ran for circuit judge in 2017. She is also a former president of the Houston County Bar Association.
