The man accused in a July 4 murder should have been behind bars at the time of the crime, according to his bondsman.
Avaughn Ahmad Brown, 18, of Dothan, is charged with the murder of Ja’Marion Rashawn Snell, 18. Snell was shot on Hutchins Street.
Prior to the shooting, Brown was a suspect in other violent crimes, including a Panama City Beach Spring Break 2025 incident and an April shooting in Dothan.
Florida authorities considered Brown a fugitive from justice in their case against him for minor in possession of a firearm and drug possession. They charged him after an incident at Pier Park in which 17 teens “took over” Panama City Beach during Spring Break last year. He was eventually brought into custody but was released on a $7,500 bond.
He was arrested again in April and charged with assault in the Dothan shooting, where the victim survived. Court documents show the bondsman who provided the $15,000 bond in the case applied to have Brown’s bond revoked on June 24. The details on the request were unclear.
Brown, who has since moved to Montgomery, was taken into custody Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Violent Fugitive Task Force. He is charged with murder and is being held in the Houston County Jail with no bond. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
Police said more arrests are possible.
