Douglas Mayor Corey Hill won the Republican primary runoff Tuesday against Baldwin County farmer and businesswoman Christina Woerner McInnis, according to preliminary results.
Hill had 53% of the vote with 95% reporting. He received 157,907 votes, and McInnis had 138,374 votes.
The results will be certified next week.
A farmer and grocery store owner, Hill ran on easing regulations on farmers and ensuring food safety. He pushed buying local and supporting Alabama farmers. He said as a farmer and small business owner himself, he understands the importance of strengthening local infrastructure and promoting small businesses.
Hill will face the Democratic candidate, former Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Ron Sparks, in the November 3 general election.
