The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and multiple local jurisdictions arrested 53 people and took several guns and drugs off the street as part of Operation Alliance Shield.

The operation was conducted on October 16. Focusing on the northern and eastern parts of Jefferson County, it had three purposes: reduce crime, increase law enforcement presence, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

The sheriff’s office said local agencies participating included police departments from Argo, Birmingham, Fultondale, Gardendale, Tarrant, Vestavia Hills and Bessemer.

“I would like to thank our local and federal law enforcement partners for their participation in this successful Operation,” stated Sheriff Mark Pettway. “Ensuring the safety of the citizens of Jefferson County remains my top priority. We will continue working to enhance the quality of life for everyone in our community.”

Along with the 53 arrests, 207 citations were issued, and six firearms were seized. Officers seized ecstasy, methamphetamine, marijuana, fentanyl, cocaine, hydrocodone and tramadol.
