The Alabama Republican Party announced that Dr. Alveda King will be its keynote speaker at the 2022 ALGOP Winter Dinner on Friday, February 18th at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham.

King is the daughter of the late civil rights activist Rev. A.D. King and a niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Alveda King is a civil rights activist in her own right. She is currently a minister and advocate for the unborn, working through her Alveda King Ministries and Priests for Life. King is the author of several best-selling books and a Fox News Contributor.

“We are incredibly blessed Dr. King accepted our invitation to come speak at our Winter Dinner,” Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said. “I have long been an admirer of her work, which speaks to our Party platform of 'equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all', as well as the 'sanctity of all human life'. Our members are excited to hear from Dr. King, as we remember the work and sacrifices of her entire family during this Black History Month.”

King will be signing books and have some available for purchase.

The Winter Dinner is a fundraiser that the party holds annually.

On Saturday, the Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee will meet in Birmingham to consider resolutions, bylaws changes, and to elect officers as their terms expire. Wahl and the majority of officers are elected to two-year terms that expire next year.

Republican insider and Executive Committee member former State Rep. Perry O. Hooper Jr. (R-Montgomery) told 1819 News that he and Jenna Boggs intend to introduce a resolution honoring country music legend Lee Greenwood and home builder Louis Breland for their recent effort teaming up with Helping a Hero to provide two handicapped accessible homes to two seriously wounded Alabama Veterans mortgage-free.

Alabama has the largest state Republican Party in the country.
