A new business is coming to the former location of Hush Hookah Lounge in Birmingham's Five Points South: Opulence Drag Lounge & Taqueria.

As reported by WBRC News, Connor Sanburn, the Five Points South district manager with REV Birmingham, indicated that the owner is from out of state but has already begun introducing himself to local business owners.

The new establishment hopes to attract an older crowd by hosting drag events during the day.

"This community is growing, and it's healing. It's very exciting to see that and it's exciting to see that someone with a drag bar concept wanted to go to 5 points and wanted to go to Birmingham for that," Sanburn told WBRC.

Hush Lounge closed on December 1, 2024, just months after the horrific September attack, which resulted in four people killed and 17 others wounded. Birmingham Police recently announced the arrest of two more in that mass shooting.

No official open date is available on their social media page or on the banner they have placed. According to reports, the space is currently being remodeled.
