The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating a police chase that ended in a crash on U.S. 231 in Montgomery County.

Troopers assisted the Prattville Police Department after the chase started around 4:19 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 65 in Autauga County. The driver of a Toyota Camry refused to stop and led law enforcement into Montgomery County.

"The pursuit continued through the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas," said ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett.

Multiple agencies joined the chase, including ALEA's Aviation Unit, officers with the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit (MACS), the Montgomery Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The chase ended when the Camry crashed with a commercial vehicle on U.S. 231 near mile marker 164.

The driver and passenger of the Camry were injured. The driver was taken to Baptist Medical Center South, but the passenger had to be airlifted to UAB Hospital.

According to WAKA, police were attempting to stop the vehicle, which they believe was involved in a hit-and-run.
