With major decisions on the horizon for Alabama’s elections, families and future, Eagle Forum of Alabama is calling citizens, parents, pastors and community leaders to gather Friday, December 5, for a one-day conference focused on election integrity and preparing for the upcoming 2026 legislative session.
The event is designed not just for policy insiders but for everyday Alabamians who care about the direction of the state and want to be equipped and engaged heading into a pivotal year, said executive director Becky Gerritson
“This is a unique moment for Alabama,” Gerritson said. “So much is at stake for our elections, our children, and our freedoms. This event will empower citizens to be prepared and engaged before the legislative session begins.”
The conference will feature Dr. Douglas G. Frank, a nationally recognized election-integrity researcher and data analyst, who will outline current vulnerabilities in U.S. election systems, explain proven reforms to safeguard voter confidence, and share practical strategies citizens can begin using now to enhance transparency and trust in the voting process. The day will conclude with hands-on training in the Linda Rantz hand-count method, equipping attendees with the skills to support election-day accuracy and accountability.
Additionally, Les Bernal, executive director of Stop Predatory Gambling and one of the nation’s leading authorities on gambling policy, will address the rapid expansion of online sports betting and its impact on young people, families and communities throughout Alabama. Bernal’s session comes as online betting continues its push into the state and as policymakers prepare to confront the issue in 2026.
Policy experts and Alabama legislators will also present an early preview of top legislative priorities for the 2026 session, including updating Alabama’s sex-education law to ensure scientifically based, age-appropriate instruction; strengthening safeguards around THC and hemp-derived products in response to rising health and public-safety concerns; protecting children and communities from the growing influence of online sports gambling; and safeguarding life by restricting access to the abortion pill. Attendees will receive briefing materials and action steps to be prepared before the legislature convenes on January 13.
“This isn’t just a conference — it’s preparation for the battles ahead,” organizers shared. “While the holidays are a busy time, taking one day now will equip you to stand up for Alabama’s future. Our state needs informed, motivated citizens who are ready to lead and defend our values.”
The event will take place on Friday, December 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 2209 Lakeshore Drive in Birmingham. The cost is $50, which includes lunch and meeting materials. Advance registration is required as seating is limited.
