The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee, the political arm of the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives (AREA), announced on Monday its endorsement of former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell in his campaign to secure the Republican nomination for attorney general in 2026.
The endorsement was approved by the PAC’s board of directors, a group of leaders from Alabama’s electric cooperatives focused on supporting rural communities and the state’s energy industry, according to a press release.
“Jay Mitchell is a candidate who understands and is deeply committed to the issues that matter most to Alabama’s electric cooperatives—protecting our ability to provide safe, reliable, and affordable power while supporting the people and businesses that make up rural Alabama,” said Karl Rayborn, president & CEO of AREA. “He cares about the unique needs of rural communities and the critical role that electric cooperatives play in keeping Alabama strong and moving forward.”
AREA represents 22 member-owned electric distribution cooperatives that provide reliable, affordable power to over 1 million Alabamians.
