Elijah Davidson, a former candidate for Alabama House District 95, endorsed Gulf Shores businessman and financial expert Joe Freeman.
Davidson, who challenged Freeman and State Rep. Frances Holk-Jones (R-Foley) in the Republican primary, said he wanted to stay out of their runoff campaigns, but was inspired by a woman he met while door-knocking on the campaign trail. He said she inspired him to carefully evaluate each candidate so he could tell the 1,500 people who voted for him who he supports. Davidson did his research and spoke to both runoff candidates before making a decision.
“I wrote up a seven-point pledge, ran it through dozens of supporters, close friends, family members, and a few others for feedback, and then agreed to meet with both Frances Holk-Jones and Joe Freeman,” Davidson said.
Holk-Jones initially refused to sign the pledge, but Freeman did. Freeman then called to make an addendum and Holk-Jones signed the amended pledge.
Davidson decided to endorse Freeman and took to social media to share the journey that led him to that decision. He included images of the signed pledges.
“He is a decent man who makes mistakes like the rest of us,” Davidson added. “The difference is that he owned up to the ones that were actually true and pushed back on the ones that weren't.”
Davidson said Freeman has agreed to give him special access if elected.
“So, to everyone reading this who has a concern, who will have a concern, or who wants to relay a message to Joe Freeman if he is elected, go to him directly or, if you want someone in your corner, come to me and I'll raise hell for you,” he added. “To the Uber driver, the Walmart worker, the plumber, the fast-food employee, the single parent, and everyone else who doesn't have a group like GUMBO, the Business Council, or ALFA
looking out for them in Montgomery, you can take it to the bank that I will hold Joe's feet to the fire and make sure he never forgets who sent him to Montgomery in the event that he wins.”
The primary runoff is June 16.
