Escambia County Republican voters will elect a new commissioner in the primary on Tuesday.
Billy Blair and Scottie Stewart are vying for the District 3 spot after incumbent Larry White withdrew his re-election bid in March.
The winner will not face a Democratic opponent in the November General Election.
Blair has experience in budget planning and management of public funds and in personnel management. According to an endorsement from White, Blair retired from the U.S. Justice Department and served as Chief of the Special Events Branch. He has also trained investigators with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Stewart served as a commissioner from 2018 to 2022. The military veteran worked for 26 years with CSX and served in law enforcement. He said his focus is on safe roads, schools and fair treatment for every citizen. Stewart vowed to use his work ethic to bring progress to Escambia County.
Polls open for the primary election at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m.
