On Thursday, Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton announced his campaign for reelection to what would be his third term in office.

"Serving as your Sheriff has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Horton said. "Together with the dedicated men and women of the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, we have made tremendous progress — and I am asking for the opportunity to continue that work."

Horton highlighted many of his accomplishments since taking office in January 2019, including raising deputy pay, adding student resource officers, launching the Sheriff's Office mobile app, partnering with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement 287(g) Program, upgrading the detention center and partnering with the Probate Judge's Office to provide a mental health officer assisting countywide.

"These accomplishments reflect our commitment to safety, accountability, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources," Horton said. "We have made real progress — and there is more work to be done."

"It has taken time to understand and make improvements, and I am proud of the work that has been done. But we still have work to do. Our goal is to provide the safest environment possible while giving those incarcerated an opportunity for change. We are all in this together, and together we can make a difference."

Horton's campaign theme is "A Sheriff for ALL with a Servant's Heart."

"My heart has always been in serving the people of Etowah County," Horton added. "With your support, I will continue strengthening public safety, supporting our schools, modernizing our operations, and ensuring that our Sheriff's Office remains one of the most professional and effective agencies in Alabama. I will continue to be A Sheriff for ALL with a Servant's Heart."
