The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrested the former mayor of Lake View Wednesday for possession of child pornography.

Paul Calhoun, 53, was booked into the Tuscaloosa County jail and remained there. As of Thursday morning, no bond had been set.

Sheriff's investigators found electronic devices belonging to Calhoun, which allegedly contained child pornography. He is now charged with one count of possession of child pornography. Other charges could be added.

Lake View is a town of 1,943 residents on the Tuscaloosa/Jefferson County line. It is primarily in Tuscaloosa County, with a small part in Jefferson County. It is halfway between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

Calhoun became Lake View's mayor in 2016. He was appointed mayor by then-Governor Robert Bentley of Tuscaloosa after the mayor and two council members resigned, leaving the town unable to transact business. Calhoun was later elected to a full term.

Calhoun resigned as mayor in 2020 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor ethics charge for voting on a matter in which he held a financial interest.
