While many Alabama resources are being sent to the hardest-hit areas of North Carolina, a Fairhope church is gathering goods for a small Georgia town devastated by Hurricane Helene.

The entire county of Jeff Davis has no power. The county seat, Hazlehurst, experienced widespread damage among its over 4,000 residents.

Trees fell on houses and roadways and the sewer system was shut down.

The steeple fell from First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, but that didn’t stop the congregation from gathering and singing Sunday morning.

First Baptist Fairhope is now providing relief to the town. Donations can be dropped off at the church until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Items needed include water, Gatorade, non-perishable foods, first aid kits, sunscreen, oil for chainsaws, gas cans, duct tape, work gloves, trash bags, shovels and rakes.
