The Fairhope Police Department is investigating a fatal collision between an electric bicycle and a truck.
The crash occurred on Section Street on Friday. John King, 38, of Fairhope, was transported to a regional medical center, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Police said King collided with the rear of a truck that was stopped.
“We recognize that this incident may prompt conversations about e-bike safety,” Fairhope Police stated. “Those conversations are important and should take place thoughtfully. Today, however, our thoughts are with Mr. King's family and loved ones as they grieve this tremendous loss.”
The Fairhope City Council approved a new mobility device ordinance this year after reporting an increase in e-bikes and scooters. The ordinance lays out new rules for riders.
