Family and lawmakers asked for prayers for State Sen. Tim Melson (R-Florence) after he suffered a heart attack earlier this week in South Korea that has left him in critical condition.

Ellie Melson, his daughter, said on Facebook on Friday, "I'm not exactly sure where to start other than to say, please keep my dad in your prayers."

"As some of you may know, he has suffered cardiac arrest. They were able to resuscitate him, but he is in critical condition," Ellie Melson said. "I wish we had more info — the information we have beyond this is minimal and ever changing so there's not much to share right now. I am en route to be with him in South Korea and we are trying to keep a hopeful outlook. As you can imagine, the language barrier and time difference has been a challenge. Please pray for the team who is caring for him and that we make the best decisions for him in the upcoming days/weeks/months. We're overwhelmed with the whole situation so please know if you don't get a response from someone within the family, we still deeply appreciate your support and will share when we can."

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said on Twitter on Friday, "we continue to pray for Alabama Senator Tim Melson who suffered a heart attack while visiting South Korea."

"I would ask everyone to pray for him and also his family as they travel to be with him," Aderholt said.

An Alabama GOP spokeswoman said on Friday afternoon there was no new information on the situation.
