Mobile City Council president CJ Small said he plans to run for re-election for the District 3 seat, a district he said has become an "economic force."
"I am excited to continue representing and working with the citizens of District 3 during this period of transformation and economic growth," said Small. "I will continue to work hard to improve our quality of life and make our District the best place to live, work, and play."
Small, the owner of Small's Mortuary & Cremation Services in Mobile, Theodore and Fairhope, has served on the council for over 12 years. During that time, the council has added walking trails to parks in the district, as well as splash pads and playground equipment.
Other projects Small has pushed include additional housing and the establishment of Tax Increment Financing to bring thousands of dollars to South Dauphin Island Parkway (DIP). Small hopes the initiative will bring millions in the next few years to revitalize the South DIP and surrounding communities.
There are also plans to rebuild the Taylor Park Community Center and to demolish the old South Brookley School to build a new community center. District 3 is also home to the new airport at the Brookley complex, which is scheduled to open in 2026.
"District 3 is on the rise, and I am far from finished," said Small. "The projects underway today will shape the next generation of growth and opportunity in our community. With your continued support, we'll keep building, improving, and leading with vision and purpose."
Projects Small hopes to see come to fruition with an additional term on the council include opening the Zyback property for water by 2027 and the finalization of design work from Virginia Street to Interstate 10.
