A massive Microsoft outage impacted the FBI office in Mobile Friday morning.
“The FBI is aware of the situation and declines to comment further,” a deleted Tweet stated on the FBI Mobile’s X page.
A source at the office told 1819 News the FBI could not go into any detail about how the office was impacted.
The IT nightmare started early Friday, impacting airlines, banks, 911 call centers, newsrooms, hospitals and the London Stock Exchange. The company said the outage was due to a faulty update of the CrowdStrike system.
Computers displayed the “blue screen of death,” and 365 services and software could not be accessed.
Gary Warner from the criminal justice department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham said Falcon software caused an outage around 4 a.m. He said computers must be rebooted in safe mode so computer administrators can remove the failing update.
UAB said no appointments or procedures were impacted.
The global CrowdStrike situation is not causing disruption to patient care at UAB Medicine. Appointments and procedures are not impacted. We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide additional updates if necessary. We appreciate your support.

CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company responsible for Windows PC services. The company said it is in the process of developing a “fix” for the problem.
“Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers,” CrowdStrike said in a statement. “We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on.”
“We assure our customers that CrowdStrike is operating normally and this issue does not affect our Falcon platform systems,” the statement continued. “If your systems are operating normally, there is no impact to their protection if the Falcon Sensor is installed.”
The company recommends that organizations communicate with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels like the support portal.
