Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) director Bill Pulte is moving Fannie Mae’s offices from California to Birmingham.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said in a statement on Thursday, “This is an early Christmas present for the great people of Alabama.”
Proud to share that after several conversations with @POTUS and @Pulte over the past few months, Fannie Mae is LEAVING woke California for sweet home Alabama.

“Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Federal Housing Director Bill Pulte, Fannie Mae is immediately leaving woke California for sweet home Alabama. Fannie Mae is one of the biggest mortgage financers in the world. Relocating Fannie Mae from San Francisco to Birmingham will not only save taxpayers money, but it will bring jobs and opportunities to our state. Birmingham used to be the financial capital of the South and this is an important step to making Birmingham boom again.
Tuberville said on a call with reporters on Thursday, "The people in the San Francisco area that run Fannie Mae have been told it is in the process. As we speak, I want it to be in the city of Birmingham. I think it will enhance it. Fannie Mae is a government organization that buys loans from banks."
"It will not be competition, and it will very much enhance, I don't know how many hundreds, but it's going to be hundreds of jobs that's going that it will impact," Tuberville said. "And hopefully, it will be there in a very short period of time. You know, once it's closed down there, which will be shortly, it will have to be moved. And so I'm looking forward to, you know, this process happening in a short period of time. And I want to thank President Trump and ... director Bill Pulte for doing this, because this was a very much needed factor that can really help Birmingham, promote Birmingham, and other opportunities will work around it. So this is just the start of something great that will happen."
Pulte said in a statement, “Thanks to President Trump and our collaboration with and confidence in Senator Tuberville, Fannie Mae’s San Francisco Office will be relocating to Birmingham, Alabama. Congratulations, Alabama!”
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said, “As Chairman of the Housing Subcommittee, I have been dedicated to addressing our nation’s affordable housing shortage, including working with the Trump Administration to identify innovative ways to increase our housing stock and strengthen local communities.”
“I’m proud to celebrate this announcement today, which reflects the hard work and talents of Alabama’s skilled workforce and pro-jobs environment. This move will not only boost economic growth in our state but will also contribute to meeting the housing needs of families across the country. I will continue to work diligently to remove barriers to homeownership and ensure that this cornerstone of the American Dream is within reach for more hardworking families,” Britt said.
