The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Chickasaw Police Department in an investigation into a fentanyl overdose death.

Kailin Laporte was found dead on August 25 at a home on 8th Avenue in Chickasaw.

Deputies developed leads on who provided the fatal fentanyl and responded to a hotel in Saraland to investigate. While there, they interviewed Payton Beason and Tyler Thompson.

According to the sheriff’s office, Beason admitted that Thompson drove her to the address where Laporte’s body was discovered to sell the drug.

"I promised to go after these drug dealers who are selling and trafficking fentanyl,” said Sheriff Paul Burch. “We will continue to go after these people and work with the District Attorney’s Office in making sure they are prosecuted and held accountable for any and all deaths that occur due to their negligence”.

Inside the hotel room, detectives said they found drug paraphernalia, white powder and cash.

Beason and Thompson were arrested. Beason was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and manslaughter. She also had warrants from the Saraland Police Department for possession/receiving a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Thompson was charged with use/possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
