The campaign for Democratic candidate for Alabama’s second congressional district Shomari Figures is hosting a unique event to raise funds for his election effort.
A Bourbon and Ballots reception will be held June 6 at the Montgomery Country Club, with Figures as its guest of honor. Tickets start at $1,000 and go up to $3,300.
“We're thrilled to invite you to a reception with Shomari Figures! Join Dr. Stephen Cooper and Dr. Kim Ogletree for a special Macallan Bourbon and Ballots reception on Thursday, June 6th in Montgomery to support the Figures for Congress campaign,” an email from the Figures campaign announcing the event read.
According to FEC.gov, Figures received $390,393.47 in contributions from October 2023 through March, outpacing his Republican opponent, Caroleene Dobson, who raised $239,701.49 during that same time frame.
Offering payment, gifts or anything of value for absentee votes is strictly prohibited after the legislature passed Senate Bill 1 banning ballot harvesting. Critics of the new law have argued it could affect the AL-2 race in Republicans' favor by primarily impacting rural areas that tend to vote Democrat.
