On Friday, ESPN's Paul Finebaum reacted to Alabama's 38-3 loss to Indiana in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
Finebaum said on "Get Up" that Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer had undone all the good he had built up from his win over Oklahoma in the opening round of the College Football Playoff because he and his team "looked soft."
"[E]verybody in Alabama this morning is beside themselves because their team looked soft, their coach looked soft and their program looked soft," Finebaum declared. "And that is unprecedented territory for Alabama. Yeah, there have been bad losses in recent history. Nick Saban lost by 28 once in a national championship game with Tua Tagovailoa. Of course, he's lost a lot of games like that, Tua has, but ultimately, he also wouldn't have had a number of championships in his back pocket. Kalen DeBoer doesn't have anything in his back pocket right now except ill will from the Alabama fan base. And I thought that all changed 10 days ago when we were in Norman. But it has not. It has actually gotten worse."
Later, during an appearance on ESPN's "First Take," Finebaum described the previous day's performance as one of "the most embarrassing, most inexplicable performances" he had ever seen.
"I'm not impressed by Alabama," he stated. "I've covered this team my entire life, and yesterday ranks among the most embarrassing, most inexplicable performances I have ever seen. I'm not giving them a pass at all. I mean, they're no longer a dynasty. They're barely relevant right now."
