First Principles Action, a Nashville, Tenn.-based nonprofit, gave Katherine Robertson a $1 million donation last week for her 2026 campaign to be Alabama's next attorney general.
Robertson and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell both reported having nearly $1.3 million in cash-on-hand for their 2026 attorney general campaigns for the Republican nomination, according to filings last week. Mitchell has raised $627,840 in addition to transferring $638,538.01 from his previous Supreme Court campaign account. Robertson raised $1,255,620. Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, another candidate for attorney general, reported having a total of $66,871.33.
First Principles is led by Peter Bisbee, who was previously employed by the Republican Attorneys General Association and the Federalist Society, formerly led by Leonard Leo.
Bisbee said in a statement to 1819 News, "First Principles is proud to support Katherine Robertson for Attorney General. Throughout her years of public service to the state of Alabama, Katherine has demonstrated her commitment to the rule of law and the Constitution."
"Katherine is restrained in her approach to liability issues and will continue the legacy of her predecessors in keeping the state out of frivolous litigation and ensuring a predictable legal and regulatory environment exists in Alabama," he added.
A spokesman for the Robertson campaign stated that First Principles is a 501(c)(4) organization and has no connection to the Federalist Society. Robertson currently serves as the chief counsel for Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, who is term-limited.
