Astronomers are gearing up for a breathtaking sight on Monday night.

The first of three supermoons this year is expected to be visible. The moon will appear larger and brighter, experts say.

The supermoon occurs when a full moon is closer to Earth in its orbit. It will appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, NASA reported.

The supermoon will be visible to everyone in the world, without special equipment, as long as cloud coverage does not block the view.

The next two supermoons of the year will happen in November and December.

NASA has an interactive feature available for online users to toggle between a regular full moon and a supermoon.
