Five Points Mayor Jeff Monroe will be on the November 3 general election ballot after receiving the most votes in Tuesday's Republican primary runoff.

Monroe, who ran against Randolph County Schools Superintendent John Jacobs to fill the seat left by outgoing State Rep. Bob Fincher (R-Woodland), has over 45 years of experience as a first responder. He has lived in Chambers County since 2001 and previously served as fire chief.

With 92% of precincts reporting, Monroe had 62% of the votes. The results were preliminary and will be certified next week.

Alabama House District 37 includes all of Randolph County, portions of Chambers County, including LaFayette, as well as parts of Opelika and unincorporated Lee County.

Monroe will face Democratic candidate Michelle French.
