Former Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange recently began running radio ads announcing his support for Katherine Robertson as she seeks to be the state’s next attorney general.

In the ads, Strange cites the increase in crime in the capital city as a driving motivation for backing Robertson’s bid.

"As mayor, our top priorities were the safety of our city and community development,” Strange says in the ad. “Unfortunately, in recent years, violence has raised its ugly head. We’ve all seen what’s happening in our community. More has to be done to ensure the safety of Montgomery. For that reason, I’m backing Republican Katherine Robertson for attorney general. She has stood tall for Montgomery and said, ‘Enough is enough.’”

Strange was the mayor of the state’s capital city for over 10 years before the election of current Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed, after deciding not to run for reelection. Since then, he has stayed active in the political scene.

Robertson, the current chief counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall, was pleased to receive public support from Strange, who vowed to address growing concerns over violent crime in Montgomery.

“When Todd Strange was mayor, Montgomery’s police department was fully staffed, and residents had a real sense of safety and security, but the total opposite is true today,” Robertson said. “As attorney general, I am committed to stopping the gunshots, shootings, and murders that have become so commonplace in Montgomery, and I’ll help provide MPD officers with the support, resources, and assistance that the current mayor is denying them today.”

“Todd Strange is a strong leader with great character who always put the needs of Montgomery’s citizens first. His endorsement of my candidacy carries great weight across Montgomery, and I am determined to make him and everyone who lives here feel safe again.”

Alabama’s Republican primary election will be held on May 19, where Robertson faces former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey for the party nomination.
