Since his 2020 first congressional district Republican primary runoff defeat, former State Sen. Bill Hightower (R-Mobile) has stayed away from the fray of politics.

He's back, albeit in a minor role, co-hosting a fundraiser for first congressional district GOP candidate U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise).

Hightower, who represented Alabama's 35th district, lost to Moore's opponent, then-Mobile County Commissioner Jerry Carl, in the head-to-head race in the July 2020 GOP primary runoff by nearly 3,900 votes. However, Hightower won three of the four counties of the first congressional district but lost by more than 5,000 votes in Mobile County, the district's most populous county.

According to an invitation obtained by 1819 News, the fundraiser is slated for later this month in Daphne.
