The Foley Police Department arrested a Jamaican national in connection to the sexual assault of a female at the Foley Walmart Supercenter.
Jamaal Williams, 23, is charged with first-degree sexual assault and reckless endangerment.
Police said Williams, who is living in Gulf Shores with his parents, was being assessed for job-related skills by a non-profit organization that works with individuals with mental deficiencies. When the assault occurred inside the store, a Walmart employee came to the aid of the victim and was able to stop the assault.
“The swift action of the employee allowed for our officers to quickly apprehend the offender,” police stated. “Foley PD commends this employee for their courage and instinct to intervene.”
The non-profit is not affiliated with Walmart, police said.
The Foley Police Department contacted federal partners to verify the offender's status. They confirmed he and his parents legally migrated to the U.S. a few years ago.
