A former maintenance manager is suing Auburn University for violating Title VII of the Act of Congress, commonly known as “The Civil Rights Act of 1964,” as amended by “The Civil Rights Act of 1991."
The act provides for relief against employment discrimination based on race. The suit also alleges that the manager was discriminated against due to his age.
According to the lawsuit filed on February 10, Henry Moreman, a former manager who is white, faced discrimination during and after an investigation into what he describes as false allegations against him by a 26-year-old black colleague.
That colleague informed the university that he was not given the opportunities necessary for a promotion due to his age. Moreman's suit claims that the young man was not eligible for promotions due to his lack of experience and states that even if he wanted to promote the man, he did not have the authority to do so.
The complaint states that during the investigation process, the university presented “evidence of preferential treatment given to African-American employees.”
