Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn't sure how he was appointed to President Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, but he said it was "an honor" to serve.
Trump announced last week that Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins signal caller, was among 20 members on the council which, according to an executive order, will "prioritize and expand children's participation in youth sports and active play," "promote the physical, mental, and civic benefits of daily movement, exercise, and good nutrition," and "engage every sector — public and private, civilian and military — in creating a national culture of strength, vitality, and excellence."
"I think it's pretty cool — it's an honor," he said. "I would say I don't know too much about it, but I think that's an honor."
After offering up a Trump impersonation, Tagovailoa was asked how he ended up on the council.
"I should ask you that question, too, bro," he joked. "How did that all develop? I'm not too sure."
This isn't the quarterback's only tie to the White House. Tagovailoa's family is very close with the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who also hails from Hawaii.
