A Blount County grand jury indicted two former Blount County corrections officers in connection with the death of an inmate.
Joseph Michael Blaine Evans, 26, of Oneonta, and Liletzy Valdez Carbajal, 19, of Oneonta, are charged with felony murder and second-degree assault.
Court records show the pair are accused of assaulting Arthur Paul Morse, 23. Morse was serving 15 days in the Blount County Jail for contempt of court stemming from a 2025 DUI arrest.
WBRC reported the inmate was “dry-stunned” with a taser on January 25, while he was experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis and was unable to stand. He later passed away at UAB St. Vincent's.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency investigated the death.
Evans and Carbajal were booked into the Blount County Jail. They are considered innocent until proven guilty.
