A former Cullman attorney and Democratic candidate for district attorney is accused of trying to poison her husband for a second time.
Sara Baker was arrested last November and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, three counts of attempted murder, distribution of a controlled substance, second-degree elder abuse, four counts of solicitation to commit a controlled substance crime and second-degree domestic violence.
Baker was arrested again in July after investigators said she gave a medication bottle containing fentanyl to her husband's caretaker. Fentanyl was the drug police claimed Baker used to try to poison her husband, leading to the previous charges.
She was booked into the Cullman County Jail.
WBRC reported that Baker's husband, James "Doyle" Baker, testified on her behalf, saying she hadn't made contact with him and he didn't understand why he couldn't see his wife.
Sara Baker previously served as assistant district attorney and ran as the Democratic candidate for district attorney in 2004. She is considered innocent until proven guilty.
