The Cullman Police Department announced on Tuesday the arrest of longtime Cullman attorney Sara Baker.
Baker is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, three counts of attempted murder, distribution of a controlled substance, second-degree elder abuse, four counts of solicitation to commit a controlled substance crime and second-degree domestic violence.
Cullman Daily reported Baker allegedly tried to poison her husband. The outlet said her home was raided Tuesday evening, and she was taken into custody.
Police confirmed Baker was placed in the Cullman County Detention Center.
"The Cullman Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to District Attorney Champ Crocker and the Cullman County District Attorney's Office, as well as the FBI North Alabama Violent Crimes Task Force and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force for their assistance in this case," police stated. "This is all the information available at this time."
Baker previously served as assistant district attorney and ran as the Democratic candidate for district attorney in 2004.
Baker is considered innocent until proven guilty.
