Phil Segraves has won the Republican nomination for the open House District 17 seat.

He handily defeated his opponent, Micheal Beck, in Tuesday's primary runoff election, earning nearly 65% of the vote (3,419), according to the Secretary of State's unofficial results.

The incumbent, State Rep. Tracy Estes, did not seek reelection. With no Democrat challenger, Seagraves is the presumptive HD17 winner.

Seagraves is a successful businessman and has served five terms as mayor of the town of Guin before stepping down to run for state office.

He ran on a platform of low taxes, strong schools and safe communities.
