The Marshall County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of one of its own over the weekend.

Deputy Austin Beard was charged with third-degree domestic violence after the Arab Police Department responded to an incident on Friday evening.

Police determined that Beard was the aggressor and took him into custody for the assault of the victim. The assault occurred at Beard's home on Hulaco Road.

Beard was recently removed from the SRO division and placed in the court division, according to Sheriff Phil Sims.

"As Sheriff, I hold my deputies to a high standard of conduct on duty and off duty," Sims stated. "I will not tolerate any employee whose conduct violates the law and which erodes public trust. As of this morning, Deputy Beard has resigned his position as a deputy sheriff and is no longer employed by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office."

Sims was placed in the Albertville City Jail and has since posted bond. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
