It was a familiar setting for Charity Bowden of Hope Hull and the University of Montevallo. She was back on stage at the Miss Alabama Pageant, where she had competed in 2019 and was awarded first runner-up.
But on Wednesday, on the opening night of the annual contest, she wasn’t a contestant. She was back performing as an alumnus. She performed a song she had composed, “Honey Do.”

On Friday, her song was released as a single and is available online here.
In her earliest career, Charity began singing in competitive pageants in ninth grade, which helped her develop her stage presence.
She gained wider recognition by competing on NBC's "The Voice." She chose Miley Cyrus as her coach after Cyrus praised her voice during the blind auditions.
She was eliminated during the battle rounds, where she performed the country classic "She's Got You" as a duet with teammate Josette Diaz. Despite the loss, Cyrus had complimented her voice during the blind auditions.
Charity sings both solo and with the Sweet Tea Trio, a country music group, with Kate Falcon and Victoria Camp.
Charity founded an annual charity event called "Angels of Change" to support people with special needs.
She has released a music video for her song "Shoes" and has a duet with Whey Jennings called "Girl on a Fast Horse."
Charity also sings Christian music. She helped build the following at the Montgomery area’s “God Speed Biker Ministry.”
And she loves king crab legs.
It’s not just the winner of the Miss Alabama Pageant that begins a career. All of the contestants gain confidence and pave the way for their futures, just as Charity Bowden did.
