Former Mobile County Commissioner and Mobile mayoral candidate Stephen Nodine is now legally cleared to run for office again after the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles pardoned him.

Nodine announced the pardon on Facebook.

"I have officially been granted a FULL PARDON by the State of Alabama," Nodine stated. "Thank all of you for your letter and support!"

Nodine, who pleaded guilty to harassment and perjury after the death of Angel Downs in 2010, announced his candidacy for mayor in 2025, but was unable to gain ballot access because the pardon was not granted in time.

On Tuesday, the pardon was granted.

Nodine was a notable political figure in 2010, until he was charged with murder in the death of Downs. His trial ended in a hung jury, and he later agreed to a plea deal. He was also convicted of federal charges, which he said were unconstitutional. The case gained national attention, being featured on national crime shows.

When announcing an end to his 2025 campaign, Nodine said he has never shied away from his "wrongful prosecution in 2010."
