Former Mobile County Public Schools deputy superintendent Samantha Ingram announced she is running for City Council, focusing on hearing community voices.
“Let's build better together for District 2,” Ingram said in a campaign announcement video.
Ingram has also served as chief for the Center for Instructional Leadership.
She said she wants safer streets and more opportunities for young people. Ingram said District 2 deserves better, including cleaner neighborhoods and a stronger, more connected community.
“I'm not just running for city council, I'm stepping up as a voice for change,” she declared. “I was raised here, rooted here, and I'm ready to fight for the future we all deserve.”
As a young girl, Ingram said she saw the power of a community coming together when she started teaching from her mother’s front porch. That experience led her to work in education and civil service.
“I work for results, people, community action. That's what drives me. We all have a responsibility to make things better,” Ingram added. “I've seen it working in the church. I've seen it in the classroom as a teacher. I've seen it as the chief for the United States Department of Defense, and I know I can make a difference in our council chambers.”
Councilman William Carroll currently represents District 2.
