The Doug Harwell for Alabama Senate District 34 campaign announced an endorsement by former Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson.
Stimpson was quoted as saying Harwell is the candidate for strong leadership in Montgomery.
“Through his selfless service on the school board and his deep roots in our area, Doug Harwell has proven that he has the skills, the leadership, and the focus to stand tall for Mobile County in the committee rooms, corridors, and chambers of the Alabama State House,” Stimpson said. “A man of deep conservative values and even deeper Christian faith, I know that Mobile’s best days remain ahead with Doug Harwell navigating our way through Montgomery, and I encourage my fellow Gulf Coast residents to join me in supporting his candidacy.”
The campaign is focused on fighting crime, improving schools and creating jobs to support the economy. The Alabama General Contractors, the Alabama Trucking Association and Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch have also endorsed Harwell.
Harwell, a Mobile County businessman, is challenging former State Sen. Rusty Glover (R-Semmes) in the May 19 Republican primary. The Alabama Republican Assembly, ALFA and BamaCarry have endorsed Glover.
