Former State Sen. Gerald Dial qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to run for State Senate District 13 on Friday.

The seat is currently held by State Sen. Randy Price (R-Opelika).

Dial, 88, said in a statement to 1819 News, “I am pleased to announce that I have officially qualified to run for election to the Alabama State Senate. It has been an honor to serve the people of Alabama in the past, and I am stepping forward once again because I believe experience, steady leadership, and a deep understanding of this job matter now more than ever.”

“Our district deserves a strong, conservative voice that puts Alabama values first and is ready to lead on day one. I look forward to earning the trust and support of voters as this campaign moves forward and to continuing my lifelong commitment to public service,” he added.

The primary in Alabama is on May 19.
