A former Trussville Police officer is facing child sex abuse charges, according to jail records.
Anthony Martin, 42, of Pinson, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with no bond on Monday. He was charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old – sexual assault with an object and second-degree sexual abuse – sexual assault with an object.
The Trussville Police Department employed Martin from January 2019 until July 2025.
Trussville Mayor Ben Short said Martin was first placed on administrative leave after the department became aware of a possible crime. An internal affairs investigation led to Martin's immediate termination and a referral to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) for further investigation.
The case was presented to a grand jury, and Martin was indicted.
"While these charges remain allegations and Mr. Martin is entitled to due process under the law, I want to be absolutely clear: the City of Trussville has zero tolerance for criminal behavior by anyone, especially those entrusted to serve and protect our community," Short stated. "Violent crimes, particularly crimes against children, have no place in our society and deserve to be addressed fully through the justice system."
Martin is considered innocent until proven guilty.
