On Wednesday, former U.S. Rep. Jarry Carl (R-Mobile) teased an announcement for his bid for Alabama’s first congressional district, which has been an open secret in the state’s political circles for months.

Carl narrowly lost his AL-1 seat in 2024, after AL-2 incumbent U.S. Rep Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) sought the position after a federally mandated redrawing of the state’s congressional map, which was intended to compel a minority district, proven by the subsequent election of Democrat Shomari Figures.

Now, with Moore rumored to be eyeing the soon-to-be-vacant seat in the U.S. Senate after the gubernatorial announcement of U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), Carl is all but assumed to be eyeing his old seat.

The field for AL-1 is pretty thin, as various players decide on what races to pursue. The only person also rumored to be State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise). However, none of the mentioned parties have yet to declare officially.

The Alabama Republican Party recently announced qualifying dates for the 2026 primary. Qualifying opens on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2026.
