A chapter is closing in the Mid-Alabama Republican Club, the Jefferson County Republican Party and the Alabama Republican Party with the passing of Thomas N. “Buddy” Black on New Year's Eve at 89.
Black was a father, or really grandfather, of Republican politics in the Greater Birmingham area. He worked as an architect for 40 years and used his skills to build the Republican Party. He remained active in the party, church, and Sunday School to a remarkable age.
Secretary of MARC Janey Whitney notified the member on Sunday:
I am reaching out to share some sad news with our MARC family. Angela Albanese, the daughter of Thomas N. (Buddy) Black, has informed us of her father's passing. As many of you know, Buddy was a founding member of the Mid-Alabama Republican Club and played a crucial role in shaping our organization. He took immense pride in how MARC has grown and what we have achieved for the Republican Party in Alabama.
Buddy's legacy and contributions will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation with the family is scheduled for this Thursday, January 16th, at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM where he will be remembered by both friends and family. Both will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church on Columbiana Road in Vestavia Hills, AL.
We extend our deepest condolences to Angela and the entire Black family during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Black, always serving others, has donated his body to science.
It is a “black day” for MARC and the leaders of the Alabama GOP.
