Fred Kelley announced recently he'll be running again for the Republican nomination in House District 68 after he narrowly lost the general election in 2022.

Long-time State Rep. Thomas Jackson (D-Thomasville) barely won a general election challenge by 550 votes over Kelley in 2022.

"I believe we desperately need a change in representation," Kelley told 1819 News. "We are losing population and jobs at an alarming rate, giving our graduates no choice but to leave home to find employment. It is high time we flip our Representative seat that has been held by a Democrat since 1994. That is just too long for anyone to hold a public office. I believe in the Republican Party, the sanctity of family, a strong military, and a robust economy. These things can be accomplished. I bring to the table years of experience in negotiating contracts, and I have learned from Atticus Finch the value of a good compromise. I will stand by our schools, our hospitals, and law enforcement. I will also stand by our Monroe County Animal Shelter, which I believe has been overlooked and underfunded for years."

He added, "As you may remember, I lost my bid for the State House last time by less than one percent. Please remember, I had never been in politics (and was) running against a long-time incumbent. That sends a clear message that voters want a change."

"This is our time and our chance for Republicans to turn out in numbers at the polls. I have always been here to help Monroe County. Whether it is flying with Pilots for Christ or peddling a bicycle to the Battleship for Cancer, I have always tried to help those in need," Kelley continued. "Today, I see we need a strong representative, and again, I am here. It would give me great pleasure to devote the next four years of my life to helping make all of our lives better. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you on the campaign trail."
